We spent the week between Christmas and New Year's at my parents' home. The cousins tied sleds to the back of 4-wheelers and took the kids for rides. That was the highlight of the week for the kids. They were outside several times a day playing in the snow. A couple things about this surprised me. First, Ainsley doesn't like to spin or go fast, which she did both on the sleds. Second, I thought for sure Porter would be afraid and be the first one inside every time. Not so. He was always one of the last. He loved the 4-wheeler! Shocked me! But I am so glad that they both tried something new and found they liked it.
Today was the first day of snow for 2012. We hit a big sledding hill over by our church. We were the only ones there, not surprising at 8:00 a.m. on a Saturday. We had so much fun! The girls were crazy on the sleds. We have little saucers and they got going really fast and would spin in circles. I thought for sure there was no way Ainsley would get on them: spinning. But she got on and went down over and over for 45 minutes. Porter went down one time but it was a little too fast for him. He entertained himself by pretending his sled was a horse named Gallop. He pulled Gallop down the hill and then back up, stopping to make sure the "horse" was okay every so often. We had so much fun! It was a beautiful morning with just us. I am so proud of my kids. Even though Porter didn't want to go down on the sled, he still had fun instead of sitting down and crying because he was scared. And Ainsley, seriously she amazed me. You have no idea, this girl even sees someone spinning in a circle and she flips out, like terrified shaking and screaming. But put a sled under her and she doesn't seem to mind anymore. In fact, just now Porter was dancing in the kitchen, spinning circles and Ainsley saw. She screeched, "Porter, stop! You know I don't like spinning." Maybe sledding will cure this fear? We'll test this theory again the next time it snow.
